This stupid Ableton mistake I made years ago changed my whole approach to songwriting. Learn more:
Here it is my first album. It has taken a lot of patience and perseverance to get to this point. Being a street performer and living on a shoe string budget, I have had to track, mix and record 4 of these song on my own. I have had a lot of help from friends and family and am very appreciative. I have learned that music is something that brings people together and am so grateful for all those who helped.
“Say What You Mean” is a song about being second in a long distance relationship. Oh, and the girl couldn’t be honest to save her life. I wrote this when I was in crunch time with Joe Gilder’s EP challenge which was a blast. It didn’t take long to write, I think I wrote it in a couple days.
“Modern Life” all started off one day when I went over to my drummer friend Joey Hennigan’s house. I brought a little Casio SK-1 sampler keyboard and Joey played some cool stuff on it. He played that awesome intro keyboard lick. We didn’t do much with it, but a year or so later I found that lick in my recordings and started playing with it.
“Words” is a song about society, honesty, gossip and influential pressure. I wrote the verse melody first on guitar, then slowly started on the chorus. Feeling kinda stuck, I aked my brother Justin Stills to help cowrite the lyrics. We wrote the chorus together and tether on the verses.
Yeh, Unseen is released today everywhere. I wrote “Unseen” about my dad who passed away when I was two. Even though he’s not here, I felt he has guided me through the darkness.
I am super excited. My first single Rescue Car is released today. Come check it out. “Rescue Car” is like a bullet: a song that goes straight to the point, with no embellishment or ornaments, just substance. The track blurs the line between the raw energy of The Stooges and the catchy melodies of The Kinks, making for an outstanding retro feel with a great rock and roll groove and cool fuzzy guitar leads.
